Time to Vote: Provincial Election 2024

Together our voice will be heard; our votes will make a difference; and we will influence the outcome of this provincial election.

It’s Time to Vote- Are You Ready?

Get Out and Vote!

Did you know that university students are the largest voting population in BC? That means we have the power to shape our province and vote for our future! This year, the SUO is running two campaigns to highlight the importance of voting, including a Vote Smart Fair on October 9th with candidates from all local ridings.

Are you a Canadian citizen, 18 or older, and a BC resident for the past six months?

Then you need to register to vote by September 21st! Register online, by phone, mail, fax, email, or in person at a registration drive.

If you need help, the SUO’s campaigns committee will be tabling throughout September, ready to assist with the registration process.

Follow @suo_ubc on Instagram to stay updated on where and when we’ll be tabling on campus.

Generation Vote Now- Hosted by BC Federation of Students

In the last provincial election, just a few hundred votes decided several ridings, and 1 in 5 registered voters were under the age of 35, with many being students. Today, millennials are the largest voting bloc in Canada, and young people can decide the outcome of this election.

Generation Vote Now is all about engaging young voters through discussions on the importance of voting, using social media to encourage peer-to-peer engagement, providing accessible voting information, and fostering communication between young voters and political parties to ensure youth issues stay at the forefront.

Visit vote-now.ca to sign up for voting reminders, compare party platforms, and get inspired to join your generation at the polls!

Vote Vacancy Control

Partnered with UVSS, SFSS, AMS of UBC, and GSS of UBC

Rent keeps rising, but can students keep up? This election, the SUO has partnered with other student unions across BC to run a campaign on Vacancy Control.

Vacancy control is a policy that ties rent to the physical unit, preventing landlords from hiking rent between tenants.

This helps ensure that students have access to stable, affordable housing. Learn how students across BC are fighting the housing crisis and casting their votes for candidates who support Vacancy Control at uvss.ca/timetovote.

Vote Smart Fair – October 9th

Join the SUO and your fellow students on October 9th from 11 am to 2 pm for the Vote Smart Info Fair outside the UNC building.

Meet the candidates and learn how they plan to serve you and the Kelowna community if elected.

The SUO will have a tent where you can find out which candidates are running in your riding, get answers to election questions, learn more about Vacancy Control, and find out where you can cast your vote. We’ll also be handing out treats and swag, so be sure to stop by!

Where Can You Vote?

From October 10th to 13th, an advance polling station will be set up in the UNC Ballroom (UNC 200).

On election day, October 19th, you can vote at student-friendly locations like Parkinson Rec Center, Okanagan College, Coast Capri Hotel, and Rotary Center for the Arts.

Remember, in BC, you can vote at any polling station, regardless of your riding. For a full list of places to vote, visit elections.bc.ca.
